Chelsea Is Over This Season
Chelsea lost to Real Madrid 3-1 in Stanford Bridge, unfortunately. Although it was only the first leg, we were quite devastated. Villarreal won 1-0 against Bayern Munich on the same night, and Everton lost to Burnley 3-2. It wasn't a great result at all, Everton will be most likely relegated this season, which isn't great for Lampard. Anyway, that night was heartbreaking.
As Thomas Tuchel said, we're officially out of the European Champions League. All we hope right now is winning the next match against Southampton. Seriously, we conceded seven goals in the previous two matches. We weren't playing well enough as a World Champion. Our first half was an absolute nightmare, Karim Benzema, probably the best striker in the world right now, scored two headers. Our defense was collapsing, Christensen looked like he just didn't care at all. In fact, we were actually lucky because Vini Jr. hit the bloody crossbar. We had our attempts, but only one of them was a goal. Todd Boehly was at Stanford Bridge and this carnage first half wasn't anywhere near the World Champion. Kai Havertz scored a nice goal at the end of the first half, which was about to cheer me up. Yeah, our defense was woeful against the world's best striker Benzema.
In the second half, we were doing alright. However, nothing pissed me off more than Edouard Mendy's most stupid mistake. Mendy literally had no mindset at that moment and he made himself probably the biggest howler in the game. He had those dumb moments before in many games when we were against West Ham, Brighton, Liverpool and got away with it, but you can't do this when the sharpest striker was attacking. Rudiger failed to scramble the ball as well. The third Benzema goal was totally avoidable and in my opinion, stopped our flow. Thomas Tuchel changed the tactics and made the team look stronger, but Lukaku for Kante? Sure, Kante wasn't playing world-class, controlling the midfield as he used to, but Lukaku made another big howler in this game. Romelu Lukaku missed the greatest opportunity in the whole game, one of the easiest headers probably, hence why nobody gave chances to Lukaku in that game anymore. I felt kind of bad for him because again, we don't want to see every Chelsea player contradict Lukaku. But Lukaku simply wasn't great enough as a forward!
This Chelsea FC is in one of the darkest times right now, so I don't want to blame anyone actually. Thomas Tuchel made some mistakes this match, but I do think he will be the man to bring our club back to the top tier. He obviously is going through a divorce, and I hope he will come out fine. Kante, Jorginho, and Rudiger, who have performed splendidly previously, are just occasionally not being great. I'm just trying to be optimistic here because realistically, our club has some serious issues right now. As Tuchel said, if we still played football like these two games, we could lose to Southampton. Something needs to be changed immediately.
Yeah, our season is probably over at this point. We can still finish top four in Premier League, Champions League is over for us, and the FA Cup... Crystal Palace has recently beaten Arsenal and Chelsea looked worse than Arsenal. Even though we get through the semi-final, I don't think we'll beat Man City or Liverpool. Finger-crossed. I hope our club will be alright.
With those being said, all my praise goes to Kai Havertz. When all our players stink, he still plays this game like a world-class player. In these two horrendous games, Havertz was the only stunning Chelsea player. If we somehow win the FA Cup or the game in Bernabeu, he'll be our strongest weapon.
At the end of the day, we're Chelsea FC, and we'll bounce back. Remember the time when we lost to Man City 6-0? Remember the time when we finished tenth in Premier League and came back at top of the league? We are Chelsea, and we are strong. Up the Blues!
